At every NLC, FBLA members of all levels have the option to compete in a category known as “Open Events”. Open Events are online tests offered to Middle Level, FBLA, PBL, and Professional Division members attending the National Leadership Conference. There are no prerequisites or requirements to take an Open Event test, and they are offered on a first come, first served basis. The tests cover important business concepts and serve as a great way to earn recognition in addition to the traditional competitive events.
At the 2016 National Leadership Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, members of the FBLA - Professional Division (PD) competed in Open Events for over an hour in a hotel ballroom. Those who chose to take up the challenge found themselves rivaling other PD members in events such as Business Ethics, Leadership, and Sports Management. Participants sought to enhance their NLC experience and learn more about the business world in a competitive manner. Many of the members in the Professional Division are adults who have already established themselves in the business world. They serve as mentors and counselors to the FBLA students, and help FBLA function in all of its levels. Open Events give them an opportunity to spontaneously show off their knowledge.
Overall, the Open Events competitions were very successful in the Professional Division, as the top winners of each event were awarded at the NLC awards ceremony. Participating in FBLA Open Events is a great way to show off your business knowledge and compete amongst your peers. So, be sure to look out for Open Events during your next FBLA conference.
